Origin

The djellaba

The djellaba is Morocco’s classic garment: ankle length, with wide sleeves and a pointed hood. For centuries it kept out the sun, the wind and the cold of the Atlas.

It used to be woven mostly from heavy wool. Today it also comes in lighter fabrics like linen, for milder days and warm evenings.
